The Peace Process in Aceh, Indonesia.

Three years full-time with a possible six month extension, open to domestic
and international students

We are seeking a suitably qualified applicant to participate in an
ARC-funded research project that explores the peace process in Aceh,
Indonesia. The PhD research will focus on the transformation and experiences
of supporters of the Free Aceh Movement. The successful applicant will work
under the supervision of Dr. Edward Aspinall in the Department of Political
and Social Change. The ANU is a world-leading institution in the study of
Indonesia, with over 30 full time researchers in the field. The PhD will
require around twelve months of field work in Indonesia. The stipend is
$20,427 per annum, tax free. (2009 rate) Applicants should have at least an
honours degree or equivalent in Political Science, Asian Studies or a
related discipline, have demonstrated research capacity and potential and be
capable of conducting field research in the Indonesian language. Research or
related field experience in Aceh will be an advantage. Appropriate fieldwork
funds will be available for the successful candidate. The scholarship is
open to domestic and international applicants.

Leiden University offers scholarships to outstanding non-EU/EEA students pursuing a master’s degree programme at Leiden University. The scholarship programme is intended for candidates showing the highest achievements and promise for a master’s degree study starting in September 2009 or February 2010. The maximum study period is 12 months (1-year programme) or 24 months (2-year programme).

LExS scholarships are available for outstanding non-EU/EEA students who enrol in a master’s degree programme at Leiden University per September 2009 or February 2010 (these are the MA, MSc, research master’s, LL.M. (adv.) and LL.M programmes as mentioned on the website Master’s programmes in Leiden).

For whom?

1. Non-EU/EEA students enrolling in a Leiden University master’s degree programme starting September 2009 or February 2010 ( All MA, MSc and LL.M programmes as mentioned on the website Master’s programmes in Leiden). http://www.postgraduate.leidenuniv.nl/index.jsp
2. All nationalities enrolling in the following programmes starting September 2009 or February 2010:

* Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in Air and Space Law
* Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in European and International Business Law

* Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in Public International Law
* MA in International Relations and Diplomacy

Additional requirements:

1. In his or her prior academic education abroad, the applicant must have achieved excellent study results which are relevant for the programme for which the student wishes to enrol. As an indication, the student will be among the top 10% for the relevant programme followed abroad
2. The applicant will hold a non-EU/EEA passport and will not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans (”Studiefinanciering”; for more information please refer to: http://www.ib-groep. nl
3. Scholarships will not be awarded to applicants who have already obtained a Leiden University master’s degree
4. Students who are granted a Leiden Excellence Scholarship must comply with and confirm in writing their agreement with the terms and conditions (pdf) attached to the scholarship prior to the granting of the scholarship.

Scholarship Amount:

The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship programme has 5 awards:

* Platinum: Covers the tuition fee minus the home fee* and an allowance of €10,000 for living costs

* Gold: Covers the tuition fee minus the home fee*

* Silver: Covers 75% of the tuition fee

* Bronze: Covers 50% of the tuition fee

* Ivory: Covers 25 % of the tuition fee

* The tuition fee will be reduced to the amount of the home fee. Students who have been awarded a Platinum or Gold award still have to pay the home fee themselves.

Application deadline:

* April 1 for programmes starting in September 2009

* October 15 for programmes starting in February 2010

Application:

To apply for the scholarship, you should write a letter of motivation (in Word) of a maximum of 500 words, in which you indicate why you believe you should be considered for this scholarship. The Word document can then be attached to your online application for the master’s programmes for which you are applying.

Selection process:

A Faculty selection committee will review the applications. Students are selected on the basis of academic merit. Decisions as to eligibility for awarding a scholarship are made in April and May 2009 (for the September 2009 intake). Applicants will be informed around 15 May 2009.

Terms and Conditions:

Students who are granted a Leiden Excellence Scholarship must confirm in writing their agreement with the terms and conditions (pdf) attached to the scholarship prior to the granting of the scholarship.

Please note

Students should be aware that the LExS is not a full scholarship. It is necessary to find additional funding to be able to finance their study and stay completely.

One of the requirements for being granted a residence permit in the Netherlands is that students must submit proof that they have sufficient financial means to finance their study period in the Netherlands. Leiden University advises a budget, not including the tuition fee, of approx. €10,000 to €14,000 per year to cover the costs for rent, insurance, living expenses, course books and local transportation. How much money students actually spend will of course depend on their life style and spending habits.

Requirements for eligibility

1. The applicant has been admitted unconditionally to an English language Masters programme of Leiden University on the basis of prior education outside the Netherlands.
2. The applicant is not in his/her second year of the masters programme.
3. The applicant must have obtained excellent results in his/her previous studies  and be for instance in the top 10% of students in his/her programme.
4. The applicant’s studies in the Netherlands must constitute a deepening and broadening of his/her previous studies in the home country.

1. The International Office of Leiden University will forward the necessary documents to the selection committee of LUF. Please note: students applying for a LUF scholarship still have to submit an application for admission to a master’s programme in order to be admitted to the programme. 2. Students have to pay the application fee and necessary deposits for MVV and or housing themselves.
3. Students will be informed by LUF about the decision by the end of May 2009.

Six funded PhD studentships in the School of City and Regional
Planning, Cardiff University

The School is pleased to be able to offer six funded studentships for
doctoral research within the broad areas of planning and human
geography. Two of the studentships are funded by the ESRC through its
quota system and are available for 1+3 or +3 modes of study. The
remaining four School-funded studentships are offered for a three year
period and will cover Home / EU fees, provide a bursary of £12,000 per
annum and include £2,250 to cover research expenses. Applications from
overseas students will be considered for the School studentships but
applicants will need to cover the difference between the Home and
Overseas fee. While a research-based Masters qualification is
desirable for the School studentships, it will be possible to
undertake a tailored package of research methods training in the first
year of study.

We would encourage applications from planners, human geographers and
other social and environmental scientists. Preference will be given to
applicants whose proposed research connects with the priority research
themes of the School’s five research groups:

Environment, Society and Space
Housing
Spatial Analysis
Spatial Planning and City Environments
Urban and Regional Governance

proposal should provide details of the academic rationale for the

Maastricht University (UM) aims to further strengthen its position as a leading European university offering high-quality education with an international orientation. To this end, the university implements a proactive recruitment policy for international students, in particular for the master’s programmes. Within this framework, scholarships are made available by the UM Scholarship Fund with the aim of encouraging talented students from outside the EEA to follow a master’s programme at UM: the UM HIGH POTENTIAL Scholarships.

Who is eligible?

Applicants must be accepted to a UM master’s programme or graduate programme for professionals and may be no older than 35 years at the start of the academic year (1 September 2009). Applicants must come from a country outside the EEA and meet the requirements for obtaining a Dutch visa (‘MVV’ residence permit).

Amount of the scholarship

The scholarship is awarded for the duration of the programme, with a maximum of 12 months per academic year. If a two-year master’s programme is involved, the UM Scholarship Committee may decide to award the scholarship for a maximum of 24 months.

-Insurance with a maximum of 12 months: € 500 (Arranged and paid by SSC)

Application & selection

You can download the application form here (pdf-file). Applications have to be sent in by 1 April 2009 to the <a href=””>faculty contact person</a> for the UM HIGH POTENTIAL Scholarships.

The faculty will rank the candidates based on quality, and the Faculty Board will send its selection to Student Services. Student Services will then propose a candidate according to the faculty ranking. The UM Scholarship Committee will make the final decision. Applicants will be informed about the decision in writing.

In making its assessment, the UM Scholarship Committee takes all elements of the application into account, including the level of previous study programmes, average grades, duration of the programme, content and originality of the study plan, motivation, status of the foreign institution, the connection with the prior programme, future plans, the proposal and the references.
